Offshore Rigger and Crane Operator Jobs

Helping Riggers and Crane Operators Find Work Offshore

Rigging Jobs Offshore Work Conditions

Working conditions for rigging jobs offshore depend on the location as well as the time of year. Offshore rigs are all over the world, from Alaska and the North Sea to South America, the South China Sea, and Australia. Climates vary widely, and weather can range from beautiful to nightmarish.

On all offshore oil rigs, it will usually be dirty and noisy. The work needs done in good weather or bad, so having good rain gear and boots is a must, as it can be cold, wet, windy and damp.

A 12 hour work day on the offshore rigs is normal, for 2 to 4 weeks at a stretch, followed by 2 to 4 weeks off. This amounts to a lot of overtime, as well as a lot of downtime in which to enjoy the extra income.

Rigging is hard. The work is very physical, so being in good shape is a must. Riggers need to have good vision and be able to accurately measure distance. Communication is an important part of the job, so being able to get along with your coworkers and communicate instructions to them is also important - the safety of everyone depends on it.

Rigging jobs offshore do pay very well, and for a good reason. As you have probably figured out, the work is challenging and the hours are very long. But the rewards more than make up for that, and living and working offshore is a real adventure.

Modern rigs are practically like staying on a hotel when you are off shift. There are game rooms, recreation rooms, movie rooms, and exercise facilities, in addition to weight rooms, saunas and even hot tubs.

Satellite phones are onboard, so you can keep in touch daily with family and friends. The food is great, prepared by bona fide chefs and experienced cooks, and there is always lots of it - the only rule being to eat everything you take.
